European vets team up with farriers to fight poor shoeing

  • European vets and farriers have joined forces to crack-down on poor shoeing.

The Federation of European Equine Veterinary Associations (FEEVA) and the European Federation of Farriers Associations (EFFA) will work together to promote properly trained farriers in the interests of horse welfare.

The new partnership aims to encourage the highest standards of hoof trimming and shoeing by certified farriers, encourage close work between farriers and vets for the therapeutic treatment of horses’ hooves and educate horse owners to only use certified farriers.

The President of FEEVA, Professor Josh Slater says: “We look forward to working together at European level and encouraging member associations to do the same at national level, to enhance equine health through first class farriery.”
