Cream of British showjumping crop honoured at awards ceremony


  • Nick Skelton was a double winner at the 2011 British Showjumping Awards on Friday (27 October).

    Nick picked up the “riders’ rider of the year” award, as well as taking home the title for international combination of the year with Carlo.

    Team manager Rob Hoekstra, who announced the win, apologised for the fact that Nick couldn’t be there – he was at the Washington international horse show, where he and Carlo won the President’s grand prix World Cup qualifier.

    The cream of British showjumping were honoured at an awards ceremony in Birmingham, which was attended by 500 supporters of the sport.

    The lifetime achievement and services to showjumping award went to former showjumper John Lanni while Tina Fletcher received the members’ personality of the year award.

    Other awards went to:
    Best pony rider of the year – Beth Vernon

    Best rider under 21 years (on horses) of the year – Lucy Guild

    Members show venue of the year – Ingliston Country Club and Equestrian Centre, Scotland

    Members annual show of the year – Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival

    Breeders award – Brendon Stud

    British Showjumping coach of the year – Alan Fazakerley
