British riders head for France

  • Seven riders on the British Olympic eventing long-list will travel to France at the end of March to compete in the CIC*** at Fontainebleau from 25-28 March.

William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell and Leslie Law, who were all part of the British Gold medal European team, will be joined by Kristina Cook, Sarah Cutteridge, Rodney Powell and Caroline Pratt at the event, which is held just south of Paris.

The seven British riders will be taking 19 horses between them, making up one fifth of the 100-strong international field. This will be the first opportunity of the 2004 season for the senior selection committee to see long-listed horses over an international track against a field of other potential Olympic combinations.

It is expected to be a highly competitive field, with Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium and Germany expected to make a good showing. Current European Champion Nicholas Touzaint and reigning Champion Jean Teulere will be representing hosts France.
