Top pony showjumper Jessica Mendoza breaks ankle

  • Star young pony rider Jessica Mendoza will be out for up to three months after breaking her ankle at Scope Festival of Showjumping.

Fifteen-year-old Jessica was competing in the jump off of the under 16 class last week when she fell from Usar Hune and landed awkwardly.

“She was just going flat out — she always tries so hard and wants to win — and if you’re going to ride on the edge then it’s a risk,” Jessica’s father Paul Mendoza told H&H. “It didn’t actually look too bad a fall, she just went out the side door and landed running, but she broke her ankle.”

The Wiltshire-based teen will be out for up to three months.

“She’s very frustrated and sore,” added Paul. “She won’t be able to compete at Horse of the Year Show, but is determined to get better in time for Olympia.

Jessica has had pins put in her left ankle and is back home recovering.
