Top Connemara breeder dies

  • Elizabeth Beckett, founder of the Shipton Connemara Stud, has died.

Mrs Beckett imported the first of many ponies from Ireland in 1969 to found the stud, and one of her earliest breeding successes was the part-bred Shipton Eblana, who went on to become a JA jumping pony. Shipton ponies have also won many in-hand and ridden showing classes.

Mrs Beckett was elected to the council of the English Connemara Pony Society in the late 1970s.
