  • Future stars of the racetrack will come under the hammer at Tattersalls Houghton Yearling sales

This year’s Tattersalls Houghton Yearling sale list is a who’s who of future stars of the track with 193 yearling entered, including full or half-brothers and sisters to 37 Group/Grade I winners and 14 classic winners including Gossamer and Landseer.

Houghton yearlings, which have enjoyed recent success in British classics, include dual-Derby winner High Chaparral, who was sold for 270,000 guineas at the sale, and St Leger winner Milan, sold for 650,000 guineas.

The sale has also produced eight other European classic winners in the past two years, including Dupont, winner of the German and Italian 2,000 Guineas and Lanseer, winner of this year’s French 2,000 Guineas.

Top sires represented in the sale include Sadler’s Wells (34 yearlings), Rainbow Quest (12 yearlings) and Machiavellian (13 yearlings).

Among the colts are the Nashwan half-brother to the two Irish Guineas winners Barathea and Gossamer, and the Sadler’s Wells colt out of Free At Last, the Grade 3 winning half sister to Barathea and Gossamer.

The sale also includes many fillies with top bloodlines, including the Sadler’s Wells half sister to the three Classic/Group 1 winners Sleepytime, Ali Royal and Taipan and the Danehill half sister to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix and Group 1 winning two year old Sagacity.

Other fillies of note include the Sadler’s Wells first foal out of Aspen Leaves, a winning daughter of the legendary Fall Aspen, herself the dam of five Group 1 winners and granddam of Champion Dubai Millennium.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony says: “This is an exciting catalogue. We have seen some very high class yearlings this spring and in a year when we have dual-Derby winner High Chaparral flying the Houghton flag, it is great to have put together a sale with such strength and depth. As ever there are any number of colts with proper stallion’s pedigrees, and we have not seen such aquality collection of fillies for many years.”
