TWI, the programming arm of Mark McCormack’s sports management company IMG, has brokered a deal which returns live French horseracing to the BBC in a five-year terrestrial broadcast contract.

The agreement between France Galop (France’s flat race and steeplechase promoter) and the BBC includes the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Lucien Barriere and the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby).

Michael Mellor snr, international vice-president of TWI, said: “I am delighted that the BBC has renewed its commitment to French racing. This is a significant new contract for France Galop, which will increase both its income from, and profile on, terrestrial television.

“I would like to add that Channel 4’s coverage of the Arc and other races has been first-class and TWI looks forward to talking with the channel and its partners regarding non-terrestrial opportunities.”
