Paul Carberry to miss Cheltenham Gold Cup due to punctured lung

  • Jockey Paul Carberry is to miss tomorrow’s Cheltenham Gold Cup after a heavy fall today (Thursday, 12 March) at the Festival.

    He was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital with a punctured lung and fractured rib following the first race today in which he fell from the Noel Meade-trained Jaamid.

    Carberry who rode Go Native to victory in the opening race of the 2009 Festival on Tuesday (10 March), was kicked in the chest and will not be riding tomorrow (13 March).

    Timmy Murphy will now ride the Paul Nicholls-trained Star De Mohaison in the Gold Cup.
