Windsor Horse Show clarifies hat rules

  • Royal Windsor Horse Show (RWHS) has clarified its position and said that it will be following the rules of individual affiliated societies, rather than placing a blanket rule on safety headgear at this year’s competition.

Competitors in Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain and British Show Pony Society classes will be required to wear hats with chinstraps as this is mandatory under both societies rules.

Sports Horse Breeding of Great Britain introduced its new safety headgear rule this year despite resistance from some of its members.

Competitors in classes run under the British Show Horse Association, which only “recommends” wearing safety headgear, will still be allowed to continue to choose.

CHAPS competitors, who are not juniors, are to refer to the show’s rules.

Windsor Horse Show rules state that it “strongly recommends that current hats to the standard PAS015, EN1384 or ASTM F1163 with either a kite mark or SE1 correctly fastened should be worn in all ridden classes”.
