Will Golden Horseshoe return home?

  • The proposed return of the Golden Horseshoe Ride to Exford remains in the balance, and the Wessex Group of Endurance GB has organised a meeting at Exford village hall on 10 September at 7.30pm, to gauge local feelings.

Group chairman Elizabeth Hinings explains: “We have heard the opinions of the committee supporting the return, but we would like to know what other people who live in the village and the surrounding area feel about it.”

The ride moved from its traditional home at Exford to a new venue at Dunster in 2003, following concerns about a variety of subjects including health and safety issues.

The committee has found an alternative site plus promised sponsorship for next year’s event, which they hope will help bring the ride back to Exford, which has hosted the event for more than 25 years.

Beth Horstmann, who chairs the six-strong committee supporting the return to Exford, says: “The ride was important to the village economy, bringing in about £100,000 a year. We have found alternatives which answer all the concerns, but EGB needs assurance that the village is behind the occasion before making a final decision.”
