VAT threat to DIY livery yards

  • Horse owners who use DIY livery facilities are facing the prospect of increased costs after a warning this week from John Turnbull- Kemp, a Swindon-based VAT specialist with accountant Morison Tenon.

According to Mr Turnbull-Kemp, if the stable owner provides more than a DIY facility, the whole rental charged to the horse owner could be liable to VAT.

“Farmers who provide do-it-yourself liveries may find themselved having to add 17.55 to their fees if they offer any stable management services,” he said.
