Runaway military horse surprises Paris tourists

  • Tourists enjoying a romantic stroll along the Seine yesterday (Wednesday 18 February) were surprised to come across a runaway horse.

Garibaldi the horse, threw his rider and galloped along the banks of the river and through the streets of Paris.

He dispatched his rider near President Nicolas Sarkozy’s Elysee Palace after reportedly being spooked by something. He bolted for about 2.5miles before being caught by police officers.

Garibaldi is a military horse and part of France’s Republican Guard, who are charged with guarding public buildings in Paris.

Both horse and rider were unhurt.
