Motorway death horses were television stars

  • Two of the four horses that died on the A1(M) on 20 September had recently appeared in a TV adaptation of Wuthering heights, it has been revealed.

Barbarella, 12, and Castle, 15, were among 11 horses that escaped from Timbertops Equestrian Centre, in Wentworth West Yorkshire when thieves stole two field gates.

Three of the horses were killed outright and another had to be destroyed.

In a recent ITV adaptation of Emily Bronte’s novel, Barbarella was ridden by Tom Hardy, who played Heathcliffe and Castle by Andrew Lincoln, playing Edgar.

Castle also appeared in episodes of BBC veterinary drama The Chase.
