Mare, 27, attacked by dog in Aberdeen is put down

  • A 27-year-old mare, who was attacked by a dog in her field, has been put down.

Justina needed 30 stiches in her cheek after the attack on 6 October in Dyce, Aberdeen.

But vets had to leave a gaping wound on her jaw open and the horse was put to sleep on Saturday (16 October) after the injury became too infected.

Her owner Jackie Holman had tried to prose the Staffordshire bull terrier off the Arab mare, and was also bitten by the dog.

She told a local paper: “Justina didn’t deserve that. I am devastated she is gone.”

Grampian Police said a 41-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
