Horse owners warned to watch out for Hampshire magazine scam

  • Horse owners in Hampshire are being warned by police to be wary of scam phone calls from a magazine requesting sponsorship money.

Hampshire police were alerted to the scam after an equine physiotherapist was called on 17 November by a man claiming to be collecting sponsorship for a magazine against horse crime.

The man said he was from Hampshire police, but the force has confirmed that it is not involved in any such magazine.

The physiotherapist gave the caller her bank details and money was debited from her account before police were aware of the scam.

People are advised to contact police if they receive similar phonecalls on 0845 045 45 45.
