Clear victory in Women’s World Polo Championship


  • The British American Tobacco team emerged victorious in the finals of the Perrier-Jou‰t Women’s World Polo Championships 2001, held at Ascot Park Polo Club on Saturday (28 July).

    Captained by Sue Hodgson, the BAT team won by seven goals to two-and-a-half, despite the efforts of the Perrier-Jou‰t Team and a goal in the fourth chukka by supermodel Jodie Kidd.

    The finals were the climax of a fascinating week of women’s polo.The world’s best players came together to battle it out for the coveted title which has become an established part of the world polo calendar.

    This year’s championships, which benefited the children’s charity SPARKS (Sport Aiding Medical Researchfor Kids), attracted more than 3,000 people throughout the week.

    Event organiser Pippa Grace said: “It’s been a truly amazing week and such an exciting final today. This is only the fifth running of this championship and it seems to grow every year.
