British vaulters prove strong in Switzerland


  • The British vaulting squad put in a solid performance at the CVI** competition at Kaiseraugst in Switzerland, in their final international competition before the European Championships.

    The male members of the team, Phillip Beasley and John McNally, performed well with Phillip’s strong freestyle routine helping to claim seventh place. John was close behind in 11th.

    British champion Hannah MacGillivray was the strongest of the female team members, qualifying for the second round of the competition and finishing in 18th place.

    Polished performances from the other British women saw Sarah Watson finish in 26th position on 6.9, Lucy Bell take 30th place on 6.8, and Elizabeth Watson finish close behind in 37th on 6.6.

    The team competition was won by the Swiss Team “St Gallen”, fighting off hot competition from two German teams. Team “Mainz” was second pushing “Ingelsberg”, the team that won last year’s world championships, into third.
