The search is on for a new home for a CIC three-star event in Scotland following the closure of Thirlestane Castle International Horse Trials.
Last week Thirlestane directors said the event had run out of money and would not run next year.
“It’s very sad news but I’m afraid it’s the economic situation the country is in at the moment,” said organiser Jamie Innes. “There are no reserves left, sponsorship was a nightmare this year and next year it will be worse.”
The board of directors also felt that, after 25 years, it was better to end on a high with this year’s successful Junior European Championships (15-17 August).
“But the door is not closed,” added Mr Innes. “If a syndicate comes forward with a sponsorship offer, [Thirlestane Castle owner] Capt Maitland-Carew will be open to it.”
