Pippa Funnell wins at South of England Horse Trials

  • Pippa Funnell made a successful appearance at South of England Horse Trials (22-23 September), piloting three horses into the top 11 in the 55-strong CIC**, sponsored by Michael Kruger.

Pippa and Ensign posted the only sub-40 dressage mark and were never headed. Pippa also finished fifth on Blue Horizon and 11th on the ex-racehorse Special Constable.

Kitty Boggis and Alex Fox’s Kings Cross rolled one pole in the show jumping to retain second place. She also finished in eighth place with General Opposition.

Third spot was occupied by Louisa Lockwood and Patricia Birt’s nine-year-old Lucia Di Lammemoor. Louisa also wound up in seventh place with Tiger Shark and took top spot in intermediate section K on Cregaun Interest.

Mary King won the open intermediate with Imperial Cavalier ahead of William Fox-Pitt and Trinity Hill.

Heading the under-21 open intermediate section were team gold medallists Georgie Spence on Cottage Craft Spirals. Harry Dzenis filled second spot with Cocoon Du Fenaud and took fifth place with his junior team mount Spider VI.

Oliver Townend had to settle for second in intermediate section L with ODT Tivoli behind Lucy Wiegersma with John Westmore’s Filibuster.

The remaining intermediate section was won by Samantha Parker, riding her own Gravity Force, by 0.5 of a penalty from her sister-in-law Rebecca Gibbs on Pasja.
