New events for under-25s

  • British Eventing has launched a new championships aimed at riders aged under 25

The three new British National Championships for 2002 are:

  • Under 21 at Weston Park (CCIY**) 3 – 6 October
  • Under 18 at Hartpury (CCIJ*) 8 – 11 August

These new championships, sponsored by Hartpury College replace the existing Young Rider and Junior National Championships. Thisnew initiative is intended to give younger riders the opportunity to achieve success within their own age groups and to create a championship opportunity for those who are out of young rider classes.

Entry to the championships will be open to British and overseas riders who meet the age limits and the standard qualifications for adult CCIs. British riders aged under 21 must also be registered with the Young Rider or Junior Programmes.

BE”S World Class Performance Manager Yogi Briesner said: “We are hoping to bridge the gap between young rider and senior classes and give riders something to aim for. We hope that this will provide riders with a higher profile and may help them find sponsorship.”

There will be no change to the Junior Regional Novice Championship and Pony National Championship, which will take place as before at Weston Park and Sansaw Park.
