Mike Etherington-Smith to step down from course designing


  • Mike Etherington-Smith will give up most of his cross- country course-designing duties after the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky, where he will design the course.

    “One should never say never again, but I don’t see myself flying around the world designing courses after WEG,” said Mike, who is designer for this year’s Olympics in Hong Kong.

    “There have to be opportunities for up-and-coming designers, and if there is one less of the likes of me maybe opportunities could present themselves.”

    He added that designing for Chatsworth would still be “part of my plans”.
