Calling all unaffiliated eventers
If you are one of the thousands of eventing enthusiasts who travel to Badminton or Burghley and wish you too could enjoy the thrills and excitement of competing in a three-day event, then here’s your chance.
Milton Keynes Eventing Centre in Buckinghamshire has been running an unaffiliated three-day event for the past six years and has attracted competitors from as far away as Devon and Scotland.
This year the centre plans to hold two such events, one in May and the other in September, both of which will be sponsored by Equine Affairs.
The competitions follow Badminton’s format as closely as possible, with classes ranging from 2’6″ to 3’3″.
Day one includes an initial trot up followed by the dressage. Day two is speed and endurance day and includes roads and tracks, steeplechase, a 10min halt and the cross-country. The final day sees a final trot up before the show jumping and the all important prize givings.
“We are really excited to be sponsoring these events,” says Hayley Sharman, marketing manager of Equine Affairs. “Our online service will play an integral part in providing support and advice leading up to the events.”
Schedules for the first event (24-26 May) will be available from the end of February.
