Farewell to eventing legend Supreme Rock

  • Supreme Rock — one of the true legends of eventing — has been put down, at the age of 25.

“Rocky”, by Edmund Burke, helped Pippa Funnell bag the most valuable eventing prize of all times, the Rolex Grand Slam, in 2003.

Among his many triumphs were back-to-back Badmintons in 2002 and 2003 and consecutive European titles in 1999 and 2001. Pippa and Rocky were part of the silver medal-winning team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Rocky retired to the hunting field — where he began his career — with owner Emma Pitt in 2005.

“He was the turning point for me,” Pippa told H&H.

“I was just incredibly lucky to have had him and incredibly grateful to Emma and her family to have given me the opportunity.”
