Farewell to Deirdre Scrimgeour

  • Deirdre Scrimgeour, who was responsible for aiding the careers of countless young riders and dressage judges, died on 21 February in hospital after a short illness. She was 86.

Mrs Scrimgeour was a List Two dressage judge and played an influential role with the British Young Riders Dressage Scheme in the south-west. She was a “grandmother figure” to whom many younger people turned for advice and she judged on the eventing circuit up to advanced level.

She leaves 3 children: Hugh, Alastair, a Jockey Club steward, and Annabel, a judge and trainer who also rides for Andrew Nicholson.

A memorial service will be held on 7 April at St George’s Church Preshute, Wilts.
