Queen’s Award nominee: Yogi Breisner


  • Lars Goran (Yogi) Breisner was nominated for the BHS Queen’s Award by British Eventing and the Association of British Riding Schools

    Yogi is an top trainer of riders and horses and he has made a significant contribution to the welfare of horses through education.

    A member of the Swedish event team from 1976 to 1987, Yogi won team gold at the 1983 European Championship and was fourth individually. He finished in the top 10 at Badminton four times and was ranked in the top 10 of world event riders for four years.

    From 1978 to 1991 Yogi worked at The Waterstock Training Centre training horses and students.

    In 1992 he became a Fellow of the BHS (FBHS).

    In 1999 he was appointed Performance Manager of British Eventing. He has overall responsibility for the training of the senior, young rider, junior and pony teams and their potential team members. He takes personal responsibility for the British senior team, including the 10 to 14 top riders and horses and also those in the potential squad.

    Yogi has had a major influence upon the success of the teams: In 2000 the seniors won Olympic team silver; 2001 European individual and team gold; 2002 world individual silver and team bronze; 2003 European individual bronze and team gold; 2004 Olympic individual gold and bronze and team silver; 2005 European individual gold and silver and team gold. At this year’s European Eventing Championships all four eventing teams coached by Yogi won gold medals. Three individual gold medals and one silver medal were also won.

    A former chairman of the BHS Training and Education Advisory Group, Yogi is an examiner for the BHS Fellowship Examination.

    Yogi attends The British Racing School about once a month to take the schooling courses that all conditional and amateur jockeys have to attend. He also audits the rider training for their pupils.

    Yogi’s contribution to racing includes regular attendance at training yards, such as Nicky Henderson’s, to help potential jockeys and to assist in schooling horses e.g. Marlborough.
