Pony Club championships cancelled

  • For the first time in 72 years, the Pony Club national championships for dressage, horse trials and show jumping have been cancelled. The event, which was to have taken place at Sansaw Park in August, has been called off due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic.

The tetrathlon championships at Warwickshire College and the national novice challenge in Cheshire have also fallen victim to the crisis.

However, the area and zone competitions to decide the six mounted games teams to compete in the Prince Philip Cup at the Horse of the Year Show will go ahead, and the Hackett Pony Club Polo championships are taking place at Cowdray and Hurtwood Park, with the support of the HPA.

The polocrosse championships will also go ahead, but there will be some changes of dates and venues.

Finals for the Dengie Winter League show jumping championships have been rescheduled for October at Warwickshire College and will be preceded by area finals in September.
