Ticket prices for the 2013 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials are largely unchanged from 2012’s cancelled event, which fell foul of the wettest spring on record. And the box office is now open.

Badminton 2013 (2-6 May) could provide the third leg of the Rolex Grand Slam for William Fox-Pitt, following his victories at Burghley 2011 and Kentucky 2012.

But he could be thwarted by Andrew Nicholson, who has completed Badminton more times than any rider without winning and finished 2012 in cracking form, winning both Burghley and Pau.

Organisers are also expecting the man who could beat them both — Germany’s Michael Jung — to be among the entries. The dual Olympic gold medallist, world and European champion is yet to compete at Badminton.

Tickets are now available for spectators to enjoy the ultimate eventing challenge, the Badminton Horse Trials 2003, which takes place from 1-4 May.

Last year’s innovation of moving the cross-country start to the main arena will be repeated and some other changes to the course are to be expected from designer Hugh Thomas.

Prize-money totals £164,000, with £37,500 to the winner, making Badminton one of the richest events on the equestrian calendar.

The Badminton members’ club ringside marquee, also launched in 2002, is to continue, offering hospitality on all four days of the event. Some ticketing changes are to be introduced to help reduce the congestion experienced on cross-country day last year – forward area car park passes may only be booked in advance.
