Native pony producer and last week’s Horse & Hound cover star Samantha Roberts is recovering in hospital after falling in the showring and breaking her leg.
Sam was riding a Welsh section C in pouring rain at the BSPS Area 6 show in Solihull on Saturday (29 May). The pony slipped in the ring and fell, crushing Sam's leg beneath it.
Paramedics attended and an ambulance took Sam to Warwick hospital, where she was monitored and underwent surgery on Sunday.
Sam was on the cover of last week's H&H, hailed as “showing’s new star”. The 24-year-old pony producer qualified 12 ponies for Horse of the Year Show last year.
• Controversy surrounded the first-aid provision at the show — read more in this Thursday’s Horse & Hound (3 June). FOR FULL STORY including comments from Sam, see Thursday’s issue.
