Horse transport safety campaign launched

  • A campaign to improve the safety of horses during transport has been launched by South West insurer Cornish Mutual.

HorseSafe” is being run in partnership with the animal rescue team at Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service (DSFRS).

“Accidents with horses during transport are often very distressing for horse and owner,” said Neil Giddings from DSFRS.

“Many of the incidents I have attended here in the South West were preventable. And I hope that HorseSafe will reduce the number of incidents that occur.”

The campaign includes five online videos featuring guidance from the DSFRS animal rescue team and Rachel Norris of Equusense in Dorset — a centre which specialises in horses with behavioural problems.

A launch evening will be held at Stretcholt Farm near Bridgwater on 21 March, with demonstrations from both Rachel and the team at DSFRS.
