Spanish Sunshine Tour jumping — week three

  • John and Robert Whitaker joined the Spanish Sunshine Tour for week three and they made an immediate impact. John won the first day’s major jump-off on Cruising’s Mickey Finn, then his son, Robert, scored a terrific grand prix victory with Finbarr V. Richard Davenport finished in 10th place in the grand prix with Olibero.

There were five Britons in the money in the small grand prix, including James Davenport (Lulu), Robert Bevis (Kanon De Lambarde) and William Funnell (Cortaflex Billy Birr), behind the Egyptian winner Karim El Zoghby on Raisa. Tony Pearson gained two comfortable small tour wins on Tender Moment.

Laura Renwick’s young horse supremacy continued. She won a five-year-old two-phase on Oxford De Breve, before maintaining her unbeaten six-year-old record. Not to be outdone, Laura’s husband, John, headed the seven-year-old grand prix on Baloubet Nice & Easy. Jemma Kirk was close behind with Tosca.
