Flying start for junior and young rider SJ teams


  • The British junior and young rider teams have made a good start in the qualifying competitions of the European Championships in Gijon, Spain.

    Chef d’equipe Mike Florence reports that all is going well.

    “We are in good shape for both the team and individual competitions,” he said.

    After the first qualifying competition for the individual championships, from 75 starters, the positions are as follows.

    Under 18 riders

    • Lee Willliams (Granada 232) 9th,
    • Jemima Daly (Bally Rose) 20th,
    • Ricky Hill (Sky Fly) 22nd,
    • reserve rider Stacy Willsone (Tougardens Joshua) 34th.

    All those riders jumped clear rounds. Ben Maher recovered well after Ocior stopped at the first fence. They remained faultless after that, but incurred five time penalties.

    Young riders

    All five British riders jumped clear rounds in the first qualifying competition, which had 42 entries.

    • Nicky Boulter (Magna Carta) 3rd,
    • Robert Whitaker (Virtual Village Randi) 4th,
    • Richard Davenport (Grand Marnier) 10th,
    • James Davenport (Florie De Moulin ) 15th,
    • Robert Maguire (Two Mills Showtime) 30th.
