New format for Arab championships at Horse of the Year Show

  • Next year’s Arab championship at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) is to be run under a different format.

One mixed sex championship is to replace the individual mare, gelding and stallion classes, to bring it in line with all the other finals.

13 qualifiers will be encouraged to keep the 3 separate classes and award the single HOYS ticket to the winner of the championship. However, 3 places will be on offer at the Arab Horse Society (AHS) National Show in July, so a total of 18 Arabs will go through to the Birmingham finale (8-12 October).

The change has also been made to allow time in the show’s schedule to include a new showing championship for part-bred ponies.

Qualifiers will be split between classes for part-bred Arab ponies, part-bred Welsh ponies and a combination of the two. At the final, there will be one class for all qualified ponies.
