Team chase season starts

  • Team chasing will return in style this year after last season was lost to FMD

Team chasing enthusiasts can look forward to a lively spring season with a full fixture list, including a number of events in the north.

The annual highlight will be the Goring Hotel National Team Chase Championships, staged this year at the Fernie fixture on Easter Sunday (31 March).

There will be extra interest in the championship this year, as it was lost to FMD last spring. Teams that qualified for the 2001 championships will still be eligible for this year, subject to certain safety criteria.

Sponsor and indefatigable team chaser George Goring said: “The sport is thriving and I have a lot of confidence in its future. It’s a fairly short season but it looks good. The new VWH course is excellent.”

George is fielding four new horses from Ireland in his Boring Gorings team. They will be hoping to go one better than in thelast championships, held at the Worcester meeting, when they were pipped by Mike Roberts’s Trifast Allstars team.

The Allstars will be trying to make it three in a row, having also won in 1999 over the lovely Fernie course. That meeting is again staging a UK hunt team chase.
