Redwings takes strangles roadshow to livery yards

  • Redwings Horse Sanctuary is embarking on a “strangles roadshow” to educate yard owners, managers and horse owners and ease the stigma of the subject.

The charity’s one-off event at its Norwich headquarters earlier this month was so successful that talks are being organised at livery yards across East Anglia.

“We are asking yard owners to come forward and offer to host a relaxed and enjoyable talk, which they can invite their existing and potential owners to,” said Redwings’ senior veterinary surgeon Nicolas de Brauwere.

“There are too many myths and old wives’ tales that circulate about strangles, and unfortunately people are often too ashamed or anxious to own up and ask for help when strangles strikes.”

Free sample quarantine posters, a list of frequently asked questions and a strangles management checklist will be given away at the sessions.

For more information on future talks at Redwings or to host a session, telephone 01508 481008 or email welfare@redwings.co.uk.
