Nick Skelton and Big Star win Rome Grand Prix

  • Nick Skelton and his team gold medal-winning Olympic partner Big Star are back in the spotlight after winning the Loro Piana Grand Prix at the Rome CSIO***** (23-26 May).

The pair took the €50,000 prize after a fast clear around the Uliano Vezzani-designed course, just ahead of Italian Emanuele Gaudiano with Cocoshynsky.

Fellow Brit Robert Smith finished third with Voila.

Nick previously won the highly coveted Rome grand prix in 2006 with Arko III.

Ten-year-old Big Star and Nick also jumped their second double clear in a Nations Cups in as many weeks (following La Baule 19 May), though the British team finished fifth in this leg of the competition.

Nick last week told H&H that Big Star “hasn’t felt this good since the Games”.

For full report don’t miss this week’s issue of H&H out Thursday 30 May.
