New BEVA president, Madeleine Campbell, takes office

  • Dr Madeleine Campbell has been installed as president of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) for 2010.

Dr Campbell is a specialist in equine reproduction and runs the Hobgoblins Stud in Ashdown Forest, East Sussex.

She takes over from Essex-based vet Chris House, who was BEVA president during 2009.

BEVA is the professional body for equine vets in the UK and has 2,400 members worldwide. It lobbies and advises the government on equestrian issues and runs Europe’s largest equine veterinary congress each year.

Subjects Dr Campbell would like to focus on during her year of office include the long distance travel of horses to slaughter in Europe, welfare implications of the government’s proposed “horse tax” and continued professional training for vets in practice.
