Millfield School steps into breach at student polo day
Somerset’s Millfield School makes its debut this Saturday in the Jack Wills Varsity Day at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park, after the usual competitors Eton College had to drop out because of an outbreak of swine flu.
Millfield’s polo team will play Harrow in the annual schools’ battle and will field an impressive team, including the Young England international John Kent.
The school is currently both the National Schools Polo Champions and the Intermediate and Combined Schools Polo Tournament winners and their girls’ team has won the National Girls Schools Tournament title three times in succession – from 2005 – 2007.
The Jack Wills Varsity Day is a celebration of student polo.
As well as this thrilling schools’ battle, the programme also includes the annual Varsity game — this year featuring Oxford v Durham — and a US battle between Harvard and Yale.
