Driving instructor fined after learner driver collided with horse

  • A driving instructor has been fined more than £1,000 after his car collided with a horse while being driven by a pupil in a lesson.

Damian Brigstock, of Brander Close, Idle, near Bradford was involved in the accident in Apperley Lane, Bradford on 26 August last year.

Brigstock was given three penalty points and fined £1,055 after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention at Bradford Magistrates Court on Friday, 11 January.

The court was told that the instructor had turned around in his seat when his client’s six-month-old child, sitting in the rear of the car, appeared to choke.

The car crossed the road and hit Cameo, a cob being ridden by Beverley Yates in the opposite direction.

Cameo received wounds to her fore and hind limbs that needed £5,000 of veterinary attention, the court was told.
