Top rider loses bridle but still jumps clear [VIDEO]

  • In an amazing feat of horsemanship, Gregory Wathelet jumped a clear round in the Prix du Qatar in Paris on Friday (4 July) despite losing his bridle part way around the course.

The headpiece of the bridle slipped forward and off over Conrad De Hus’s ears while he was in mid air jumping fence 9.

While the bridle and ear cover flapped in his horse’s face, Gregory maintained his composure and contact. The bit stayed in place as they jumped clear over the final 3 fences, only dropping out of the horse’s mouth once they had returned to a walk.

The pair returned for the jump-off, with bridle attached, but picked up four faults in the class which was won by Britain’s Ben Maher.
