Former master and huntsman of the Belvoir Rupert Inglesant is taking up a new role in Australia.
He will hunt foxhounds as a professional for the Oaklands Hunt Club, north of Melbourne.
“It’s a great opportunity that suddenly cropped up and, as their season has started, I shall be hunting hounds straight away,” said Rupert, who was the Belvoir’s sole master and huntsman from 2006-10.
The Oaklands Hunt Club’s country lies north and west of Melbourne, with plenty of open galloping country.
“It’s a real challenge that I shall relish and it will be marvellous to hunt foxes in a country where they don’t have the political correctness that has so afflicted the British countryside,” said Rupert.
He was born and raised in Leicestershire and served as master and huntsman of the Tedworth and the Ludlow before joining the Belvoir.
Belvoir chairman John Martin paid tribute to Rupert’s contribution: “He was the right man at the right time – and left the hounds and the country in very good order when he gave up the mastership.”
