Countryside heads for London’s 10k run

  • A group of 10 hunt staff who served as slaughtermen during the height of the FMD crisis are to take part in the London 10k run on Sunday 22 July.

Their participation will raise funds for Farmers in Crisis. Spokesman William Wakeham of the Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn hunt said: “We were moved to take part in the race by the terrible hardship and suffering we saw while working as slaughtermen.”

Contributions can be sent to Park Eyton Farm, Overton Road, Ruabon, Wrexham LL13 6HN.

  • The Countryside Alliance will be represented on the run by no less than 17 of its staff including chief executive Richard Burge and Campaign for Hunting Chairman Sam Butler.

The organisation’s press officer Emma Barron and Richard’s PA Alice Squarey, who will be running three-legged, are planning to complete the route at rather more sedate pace.

Sponsorship money to Sarah Godderidge at the Countryside Alliance, The Old Town Hall, 367 Kennington Rd, London, SE11 4PT.
