Who’s on the pony eventing short-list?

  • A new look team will be representing Britain at the Pony Europeans in Germany in July

Eight riders have been included in British Eventing’s short-list for the 2002 British Pony European squad. The European Championships are being held at Hagen, Germany on 30 July – 4 August.

    The short-listed riders are:

    • Lucy Eggington (Abbas Liberty Bell)
    • Tamsyn Hutchins (Harry Hotshot/Hells Angel)
    • Tara Morrison (Billy Joe Bob)
    • Laurabeth Pilkington (Welton Camellia)
    • Holly Rayner (Kaleburn)
    • Angus Smales (Cornsay Sam)
    • Alice Whitehead (Kilusty Prince)
    • Charlotte Ward (Killyfassey Freddie)

Only one rider on this year’s short-list has represented Britiain at the European Championships previously. This is Tamsyn Hutchins who is in her last year of ponies. She has the former European Gold medal-winning pony Harry Hotshot and her ride from last year, Hells Angel, short-listed.

Holly Rayner will be hoping to gain a team place this year, after being long-listed in 2001, while the remaining riders are looking to represent British pony team for the first time.

The final squad of five will be announced on 3 July following squad concentration at Stonar School in Melksham, Wiltshire on 28-30 June.

Charles Owen & Company and The Stable Door Saddlery will be supporting the 2002 squad.
