Cumbria will host a new CIC** and CIC*** horse trials next year, as a replacement for Thirlestane Castle.
British Eventing (BE) announced today that the former Thirlestane Castle 2- and 3-star events will take place Hutton-in-the-Forest International Horse Trials next August.
Thirlestane Castle was withdrawn from the calendar last September, when directors said the popular Scottish event had run out of money.
Hutton horse trials already hosts intro, pre-novice, intermediate and CIC* classes. The courses currently run over traditional undulating parkland with three water crossings.
BE regional director Iain Graham said: “We were really pleased to award this — it was important to maintain the fixture in the north of the country.
Hutton International’s organiser Douglas Weymouth added: “We look forward to some of the best riders and horses coming to Cumbria.
“The owners of Hutton, Lord and Lady Inglewood, have been very supporting, and the entire estate team has been very welcoming to everyone involved in the horse trials.”
The horse trials will run from 21-23 August 2009, and Mr Weymouth hopes to appoint a 3-star course designer in the next few weeks.
