Farewell to a course-builder and farrier

  • Philip Gardner, course-builder and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) farrier for the past 10 years, died suddenly on 15 September after suffering a stroke. He was 47.

Mr Gardner was known for his up-to-height and well-built British Showjumping and British Show Pony Society working hunter courses.

He was a familiar face at HOYS, where he parked himself outside the collecting ring, waiting for business.

Mr Gardner leaves three sons, Ben, Edward and Peter, and a granddaughter, Pippa.
