Land Rover Discovery 3

  • Towing a trailer containing a prized event horse is never a straightforward job; particularly if your vehicle is also loaded with passengers, equipment and you have rough terrain to tackle.

But Land Rover, the iconic British 4×4, has long been the first choice for equestrians — and it’s easy to see why the Discovery 3 is at the very top of the riders’ list.

Inside and out, the multi award-winning Land Rover Discovery 3 is versatile, stylish, dependable and modern, making light of any driving conditions. Its ability to go anywhere and carry anything proves time and again why this 4×4 is an outstanding vehicle in its class.

Land Rover has merged 60 years of expertise into the Discovery 3. Its 2.7litre TDV6 six-speed diesel engine can tow trailers up to 3.5 tonnes.

Whether you’re towing two ponies to a local show, or a valuable event horse to Gatcombe, the Discovery 3 is brimming with driving technology to make the job as easy as possible.

    Confidence off-road

Terrain Response® lets you tackle every surface with confidence — with a switch of a dial the engine, transmission, suspension and tractions settings will automatically prepare for optimum drivability on mud, deep ruts, grass, tarmac — even snow.

Hill starts when towing can be hard, but the Discovery 3 does it for you, its electronic park brake — engaged by the pull of a switch — can be released by simply driving away.

The Discovery 3’s ride height can be adjusted — so when you’re driving in a rutty field, the vehicle can be raised by up to 125mm, but when you want to fill the boot, it will lower by 50mm.

And inside, the Discovery 3 outperforms its rivals. Capable of seating seven adults in comfort and style, both rows of rear seats fold away completely giving a flat loading area perfect for fitting saddles, rugs, buckets — everything rider and horse need at competition, and more.

The 4×4 is stylish, too — with a choice of three interior Northern European leather trims, stadium-style seating and generous windows.

Its commanding driving position improves view of hazards, traffic and the trailer behind — it’s not surprising Land Rover’s Discovery 3 has won 97 international awards and was last year voted “Best large 4×4 on the planet” by WHATCAR?

    Supporting eventing

Sponsor of the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe since the inaugural event — 26 years ago — Land Rover, and the Discovery 3, are part of the British equestrian scene in more ways than one.

John Edwards, managing director of Land Rover UK said: “Land Rover has had an ongoing association with equestrian sports for many years, which now sees us supporting the British Eventing team as official vehicle as well the Festival of British Eventing, the Royal Windsor Horse Show and the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

“We see this relationship as a natural fit for us. Our vehicles are renowned as the world’s most capable — able to go-anywhere, carry anything and tow trailers of up to 3.5 tonnes. I think this is what makes our product range the choice of many riders.”
