New HOYS showjumping finals for amateurs

  • Amateur showjumpers will have more to aim for at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) this year.

Two new championship finals have been created for British Showjumping (BS) national members competing between 90cm and 1.30m.

Bronze (90cm-1.10m) and Silver (1.10m-1.30m) Leagues are being introduced from 1 April.

Points will be scored for placings and double clears in any BS class at the relevant level qualifying riders for respective semi-finals, leading to 2 championship finals in HOYS’ main arena.

These replace the Amateur Classic Championships (1.20m), enabling riders to compete for either of the titles on offer at the appropriate height for them.

The top 15 horse/rider combinations in each of the 8 regional Bronze and Silver League tables (1 April-30 June) will qualify for either the north or south semi-final.

The top 7 at each semi-final will go forward to HOYS — giving 14 combinations for each of the 2 championships.

There is an alternative route to the semi-finals, via 8 direct qualifiers — 4 in the north, 4 in the south. The first 3 from each of these will be eligible for the north or south semis.

Justine Naylor, BS’s national director of sport said: “I speak on behalf of the National Sport Committee when I say that I’m sure every member competing between these height categories will be delighted to have the chance to compete in a championship final at such a significant venue.”
