Hot favourite Comberton Clancy lived up to all expectations to become the choice of John and Betty Peacock to take supreme horse of the year title at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).

Ridden to perfection by Jayne Webber, Jackie Beatham and Carol Bardo’s quality Blaircourt Frankino eight-year-old had earlier taken the riding horse championship after winning his large section.

“He just felt so rideable, I felt I could do anything with him,” said Jayne, who has had a wonderful first season with Clancy. “He is the ultimate showman, and loves to jump, in fact he is one of the few horses I can jump a clear round on.”

Amy Underwood took the reserve riding horse title with her mother Pearl’s small section winner Military Crisis, a nine-year-old by Infantry who has claimed three championships this season.

“I admired him in the ring last year, and when the opportunity came up to buy him after HOYS, we jumped at the chance, and he has lived up to all expectations,” said Amy.

Paul Bedford claimed the shire horse of the year title with Metheringham Upton Hamlet, a two-year-old colt who Paul bought as a foal. Unbeaten in his class this season, the strapping bay includes wins at the National Shire Show in his seasonal tally.
