Emma Hindle continued her run of impressive performances in FEI world cup dressage qualifiers in Stockholm at the weekend, coming second in the grand prix and fourth in the kur.

Local hero Jan Brink, Sweden’s European individual silver medalist, received an amazing reception from the capacity crowd and won both classes with Bjorsells Briar 899.

“I have never felt an atmosphere like it, the audience raised the roof”, says Brink, who acknowledged the extremely high standard at the event. “It is such a high quality field here that even getting into the first five or six was a success.”

Jan took the grand prix with 76.33% ahead of Emma and Wie Weltmeyer’s impressive 72.37% performance. Jan’s Finnish trainer Kyra Kyrklund was third with 71.87%.

An outstanding kur saw Jan leave the arena with 81.90%, ahead of second placed Kyra who scored 80.92% on the impressive grey gelding Andiamo Tyme and was celebrating her birthday.

A strong 76.80% performance saw Emma take fourth behind Heike Kemmer, who now leads the points’ rankings. Emma is now in second place.

Emma has been pleased with her performances so far in this, her first World Cup season. She says: “Wie Weltmeyer was more relaxed on the second day, and we are still both gaining confidence in the freestyle.”

Emma is currently working on a new Kur with a more difficult ground pattern using music by Elton John, which she will perform at the Olympia Dressage Gala Evening later this month. She plans to use the new routine at the Neumunster qualifier in February, after she and Wie Weltmeyer have had a well-earned break.

She adds: “It is great to be No. 2 on points, and to beat any of these riders I have admired for years is an honour, but we will have to see what the Dutch riders do in Maastricht, then Mechelen.”

The only other British rider competing in Stockholm was Wayne Channon and Lorenzo CH who finished 12th in the grand prix with 67.83% and 15th in the kur with 67.50%.
