Many of us who compete want nothing more than a fun and stress-free day out with a satisfying performance that makes the hard work worthwhile – the rosettes and placings are often just a bonus.
One element of that is knowing you’re covered if anything goes wrong, whether that’s with your transport or your horse. Having this peace of mind goes a long way.
The Insurance Emporium offers a range of equine insurance products – with up to a *30% discount on horse and veteran horse policies – that can be tailored to suit your needs, whether you have a Pony Club all-rounder or a single-discipline competition horse.
*This includes a 20% introductory discount, and if you have more than one horse or pony in the family then you can take advantage of a further 10% multi-horse discount. The 20% introductory discount is available from the start of the policy until its first review/renewal date. The multi-horse discount is either applied at inception of any new horse policies or at renewal of existing horse policies.
Francis Martin, CEO of The Insurance Emporium, says: “We offer two tiers of policy when it comes to catering for different disciplines categorised as type of use.
“Type 1 covers activities including dressage, driving, long distance riding (under 25 miles), Pony Club and Riding Club activities (excluding cross-country), showing, showjumping and western riding.
“In addition to Type 1 activities, Type 2 covers cross-country, advanced (affiliated) eventing, hunter trials, hunting (including drag hunting), endurance riding (over 25 miles), point to-point, team chasing and trec.”
Those who add the vet’s fees benefit on lunar monthly policies with The Insurance Emporium are covered for between £3,000 to £7,000 per incident, for a maximum of 365 days – whichever is reached first.
“This means that if you need to make a claim for a lameness problem, you’ll also be able to claim for an issue related to allergies, for example. So, for each of these unrelated problems you may receive up to 365 days of cover, up to £7,000 depending on your level of cover,” Francis explains.
The standard benefits include death, theft or straying, but there are plenty of optional benefits in addition to the vet’s fees cover. These include saddlery and tack, rider dental treatment and personal accident, which you may want to consider.
The Insurance Emporium covers competitive riders of a wide range of ages.
“Our horse rider policies provide cover for riders aged between five and 75 year old and includes emergency vet’s fees and euthanasia, theft and straying, personal accidental, dental treatment for riders and more.”
Trailer insurance is another consideration for some riders. The Insurance Emporium offers trailer policies that cover for fire, theft and accidental damages as standard. Then, as with the horse policies, you can add on a range of optional benefits.
“These include replacement hire, public liability, recovery and delivery costs [UK only], loss of entry fees, friends cover [UK only] and European use,” Francis explains.
“We also offer insurance for those hiring a trailer.”
