Whitaker wins in Geneva

  • Race is on to qualify for the World Cup series as Michael Whitaker and Handel II clinch grand prix title in Switzerland

After a disappointing seasonMichael Whitaker came up trumps this weekend in Geneva.

Competing in the Prix du Saleve with Prince Of Wales FCS on Thursday, he produced an unbeatable round. In the same class, Ireland’s Jessica Kurten with Bonita finishedthird.

Michael followed this up on Sunday by winning the Geneva Grand Prix with Handel II.

The previous night, Handel suffered a bruised heel while warming up for the Rolex Top 10 competition and went lame.

Thankfully, Handel made an overnight recovery to compete successfully yesterday, winning the class with a clear round in 38.80secs.

Michael will welcome this recent success, however the pressure is now mounting to gain enough points to qualify for the World Cup.

Michael needs 40 points to qualify for next year’s event in Leipzig, Germany.

The top 10 contest went to Germany’s Ludger Beerbaun and Goldfever, while Malin Banyard and Butterfly Flip won the World Cup Qualifier. For full results visit www.csi-geneve.ch/2001
